Some information maybe a little bit off but for a simple mechanical system like the heating system, minor inaccuracies are probably tolerable.

A steam heating system operates by boiling water and turning it to steam. The steam then travels through pipes and gives up heat through cast iron radiators. Steam heating requires no motor to circulate the steam as in the case of water heaters. Because steam can travels up further against gravity, steam heating is a preferred choice for high buildings. The disadvantage is the loss of heat through pipes because hotter objects radiates faster than colder ones.

A steam heating system typically has a safety valve that opens up and vents steam in order to protect the boiler from rupturing. This only happens if the operating pressure threshold is set too high.

An open-loop circuit having four points of contact controls the system. The contacts comprise of the thermostat in a room, a pressure gauge near the heater, a low water sensor, and a pilot light valve. Electrical power for opening gas valves is provided by a thermocouple located next to a pilot flame. If the pilot flame goes out, no energy is available to open the gas valves and thus the system is effectively shut off.

The thermostat closes the loop when temperature in the room is lower than the set temperature. The pressure gauge too, closes the loop when pressure in the boiler is less than the set pressure.

Each room in a home should have radiators which are properly sized for the space of the room. A radiator's heating output can also be controlled using the attached air bleeder. The bleeder is made of a heat sensitive material that opens and closes the radiator in response to the hot air passing through it. By adjusting the air bleeder, one controls the radiator's operating duration while the heating system is on.

Operate the heating system by setting the thermostat to a desired temperature and set the pressure gauge at the lowest value, say 2.5 PSI, and set the high threshold pressure at 1.5 PSI. The extra pressure setting is the amount of hysteresis used to control the firing rate (number of on/off) of the boiler. The current loop is cut off if pressure is greater than 4 PSI. It cuts back in at 2.5 PSI. If the heating system is unable to catch up to the set temperature in a few hours, adjust (loosen) the pressure valve screw in minute increments then wait a few hours. Repeat the procedure until the heating system catches up with the setting on the thermostat.

The bottom of the boiler is connected to a water valve. Open the valve frequently to drain muddy water from the boiler. Add water to the system in small increments. If the boiler is low in water, the gas valve is cut off automatically to prevent damage to the boiler. When both ends of the clear cylinder are open, the indicated water level is equal to that in the boiler. For that reason, the valves on both ends should stay open.

If it is a new radiator, one should flush it with water a few times to remove materials left from the manufacturing process and surface grease added to protect a new unit from rust.

Synthesizing Stephen Crothers (or why I no longer believe in the Big Bang)

The Big Bang Never Happened

Bill Gaede is a man who wants to draw a clear distinction between math and physics. In his view, the current crops of physicists are really mathematicians who have lost their ways by straying too far from realistic explanations of natural phenomena. The mathematicians championed such abstract concepts as zero form particles, particle-wave duality, and particle-mediate carriers of forces. Mr. Gaede's proposes a "rope hypothesis" which, in the case of gravity, the torsional force linking every bodies in the universe implies instantaneous actions at a distance. Viewed this way, if the Sun would suddenly disappear, the earth's movement would immediately fly off on a near straight line. The current belief is that it would take about 8 minutes for the earth to feel this effect.

The rope hypothesis partitions space into sets of preset gravitational potentials. If a celestial body is not present, there is immediately no potential on the other body. The rope hypothesis is a static concept, thus is free of a force mediator associated with a dynamical force field.

One video to another, we are led to the cases of black holes and the big bang. Mr. Gaede interviewed Stephen Crothers, a science dissident because, according to his web site, he was unjustly denied from earning his Ph.D. Mr. Crothers is a man who would run circles around most GR theorists. Remember here that we are discussing the pure theoretical foundation for the existence of black holes here. This means that Mr. Crothers is not a lightweight hand-waving theorist but a master in mathematical symbolic manipulation.

Mr. Crothers contends that the physics of singularities are wrong because:

1. In the Einstein's field equations,

Einstein Tensor (curvature of ST) = Energy Momentum Tensor (matter that causes g) (I)

In case of black hole,

right side = 0 (set by theorists, no source/matter) (II)

(I) reduces to Ricci = 0

Left side is field outside the body due to black hole.

But theorists already set source to not present. This is a contradiction.

In case of Schwartzschild ST, right side = 0, yet theorists maintain there's a source present. (III)

Then in the De Sitter ST, EMT present but no source. (IV)

(III) and (IV) contradicts.

In case of the Big Bang, Schwartzschild ST contains no matter, only a generalization of Minkowski ST (pure geometry object) => no bearing on Einstein's field equations.

Since EMT != 0 ...total energy of gravitation field == 0

So, it's impossible to localize gravitational energy => no gravitational waves.

Einstein's Tensor = EMT = 0 violates energy/momentum conservation. So...projects such as LIGO is in vain.

Einstein's fields equations are invalid ==> big bang cosmology is invalid.

It doesn't help that Einstein had doubt that physics can be based on the field concept. More recently, the icon of modern physics Roger Penrose also said that QM may be wrong.

I personally don't like the concept of infinite mass and zero dimension. My own theory is that all objects and systems of objects in the universe have some intrinsic angular momentum. The focal point of their orbits are the centers of mass. At any point in time, the bodies would fall toward the center of mass and miss. This is because the information about the center of mass travels at infinite speed -- or like Mr Gaede's rope hypothesis and principle of instantaneous action -- but the motion toward center of mass is not. By the time the bodies come close to the center of mass, a new center of mass has been conveyed and it is different from the previous.

Back to Mr. Gaede, he ended the video thinking the universe is a perpetual motion machine without a beginning and an end. I recall Prof. Michio Kaku's comment that to an ant, the earth may as well be two dimensional. Is it possible that we're just ants in the universe? Is the universe really infinite or it's just a result of our limited perception? the limit of our deductive reasoning? We can't really assume the state of things based on mere anthropocentric definitions alone.

Rethinking traffic laws

Welcome to the machine

Many states designate the left lane for passing, others for traveling and merging. This is just a natural designation and probably not among the best.

My radical suggestion would be to designate the left lane for traveling and other lanes for merging. If used as a travel lane, the left lane helps bring higher traffic throughput, which eases congestion. It is underutilized as otherwise currently designated.

Drivers on long commutes should peruse the left lane as a way of minimizing interference with other traffic.

The right lane is often of interest to three parties: drivers already in lane, and those on either side. Designating this as a travel lane causes interference with merging traffic from both sides. Having too many cars in this lane creates a standing wave that acts to partition the highway and impedes traffic flow.

There should be one car length between cars per 10 MPH. The ample distance helps drivers mollify others' missteps without having to brake. Braking in one lane adversely affects the others as drivers become more cautious and they in turn apply brakes.

If traffic stops completely, there should be two car lengths between cars. Drivers should be able to merge or leave lanes with ease, aided by the understanding that they always have space to move into. This reduces guessing and braking, which in turn improves traffic flow. Braking followed by accelerating is slower than traveling at a steady speed in many cases.

Without a proper distance between cars, drivers can not quickly switch lanes should the need arises. Those who claim better skills at merging without needing a proper space inevitably employ braking in the act. These supposedly skillful drivers actually create traffic jams by slowing down.

In Massachusetts, probably close to 99 percent of drivers tailgate (strictly defined as leaving less than one car length per 10 MPH). This statistic translates to just 1 percent of space being available for the proper and expedient merging needs of 100 percent of drivers. In reality, only a small fraction of drivers switch lanes at a given moment. Even so, those drivers would have to compete for the one percent of the proper space. The remaining drivers impedes traffic flow by braking because the lack of proper merging space.

Imagine a scenario where one lane is closed then re-opened immediately. With bumper to bumper traffic, one expects stop-and-go before the closure point, then flowing traffic with often large distance between cars. This scenario reveals the inefficiency factor caused by tailgating. Should drivers observe proper following distance, the difference prior to and after the closure point would only be of speed, not distance between cars.

Humans are not efficient because we have no common goals or consensus regarding driving decisions. Compounded with these difficulties are the primitive means of communication. The intelligent human operator is constrained to express intentions using just signals for left, right, slowing, or complete stop.

Minimizing impact of the human factor should be the goal when solving traffic problems. Increasing utilization of the left lane and encouraging smooth traffic flow by adherence to proper following distance are two ways toward achieving that goal.

Cure for The Swine Flu?

Fortunately, I'm not in the position to experiment with the flu virus so I can't say I'm very confident. Keep in mind that, like the cure for the common cold, we assert that viral load matters - less is always better. Also, we are focusing on the first stage or the innate immune response and try to amplify its effectiveness. From the list of symptoms associated with the flu - as listed on Wikipedia (1) - the following is a list of logical things to do:

Symptom / What one should do
-------------------------------
coughs / cough a lot more
runny nose / blow nose a lot more as in my Common Cold video
high fever / cover up oneself in multiple layers of blankets
vomiting, diarrhea / take HCL pills to kill virus in the stomach and the intestine
muscle ache / I'm not really sure how to explain this so I can't devise a way to "help" the body.
lack of appetite / eat less just to have enough energy to function

Unlike the common cold virus which mainly inhabits the nasal passage, we can see that the flu virus is everywhere in the body. As always, do this the moment you think you have the flu. Wait too long and the virus will multiply and overwhelm the immune system.

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Symptoms_of_swine_flu.svg

Fish Human

Howard T Odum thought that free economic systems evolved according to the Maximum Power Principle.

Here, application of the same principle to fish farming; temperature gradient is managed so that fishes grow at the fastest rate.

http://afs.allenpress.com/perlserv/?request=get-abstract&doi=10.1577%2F1548-8659(1990)119%3C0611%3ATMPPIB%3E2.3.CO%3B2

HIV/AIDs Related Info

I researched this because I'm owning their stock shares. Now that I had failed, I'm thinking about all sort of possibilities. The body, esp. of those with a compromised immune system, is an inferior cell plant. Outside the body and inside the lab, there shouldn't be anything getting in the way of production scaling of whatever type of cells that are needed.
